The PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences and a PhD and Master of Science in Health Professions Education have been added in recent years to meet rising demand for highly educated health care professionals, educators, and researchers. POSITION SUMMARY:Reporting to the Director of Accounting and Reporting, the Senior Accountant supports the monthly and year-end close process and reconciles asset, liability, revenue and expense accounts. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently to complete regular and ad-hoc assignments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Develop in depth knowledge related to the Institute's accounting structure and systems, including both income statement and balance sheet accounts.
- Reconcile all balance sheet and revenue and expense accounts, including complex system reconciliation of Cash and Student AR accurately and within time sensitive deadlines.
- Responsible for monthly upload of balance sheet reconciliations to MGB account reconciliation software.
- During the financial close, prepare journal entries to properly record financial transactions and update monthly close package within time sensitive deadlines.
- Assists with monthly review and analysis of actual/budget variances and effectively communicate and present issues to appropriate levels of finance and management.
- Assist in preparing external financial reports, including but not limited to MGH Institute Annual Report, Annual IPEDS Survey (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System), Nurse Faculty Loan Program Annual Report (NFLP), and New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE) Annual Reporting.
- Update accounting policies and procedures and ensure that policies and procedures are complete and accurate on the Institute's intranet.
- Promote a customer service environment, including providing support to multiple constituents including faculty, staff, and students.
- Develop and prepare a variety of regular and ad hoc reporting analyses and projects for issues related to management inquiries for revenue, assets and liabilities and expenses, all performed within time sensitive deadlines and with a high degree of attention to detail.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor's degree in accounting. CPA or MBA preferred.
- Four to six years of experience.
- Direct experience with higher education or Fund Accounting preferred.
- Self-motivated and flexible team player.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work effectively as member of team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to research issues and process complex transactions and procedures.
- Professionalism and maturity when dealing with all constituencies both internally and externally.
- Able to identify, recommend and implement accordingly opportunities for change and improvement.
- Strong computer skills, advanced use of Excel.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial System is desirable.
- Knowledge of database programs such as Adaptive Planning, and Datatel desirable.
