Now seeking an accounts payable manager to oversee and coordinate all aspects of disbursement management of the daily business operations over and within the accounts payable area, as well as the university at large. This person will direct, oversee, and coordinate the day to day functions of AP staff. The ideal candidate must exercise independent judgment, be flexible and able to anticipate changes in work responsibilities within the department and to adapt to fulfill the demands of its operations; diplomatic and adaptable; an effective team builder and efficient problem-solver manager, with keen decision-making skills. In addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills, this individual possesses strong team leadership and supervisory skills and exhibits a supportive, team-oriented management style.
This role is responsible for supporting disbursements by performing high level and complex accounting within the public higher education governmental industry and its standards and will be involved in the financial analysis, reconciliations, and projects that support various accounting and other functions within the Accounting and Payroll department as determined by the Controller. This position also monitors internal controls within the department; grows and maintains productive working relationships with customers, vendors, students, and employees as well as with other departments and their staff (e.g., Purchasing, Facilities, Navigation Center etc.).

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance
Minimum of seven years of full-time professional progressive experience in accounting or auditing with demonstrated technical competence in a non-profit/governmental fund accounting environment and includes disbursement responsibilities to include accounts payable
Minimum of five or more years of supervisory and/or managerial experience; proven ability to manage, supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources
Experience in applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial accounting theory and practice
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business, accounting, or finance
Knowledge and understanding of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts reporting system (MMARS), Commonwealth of MAssachusetts State appropriations and governmental accounting standards (GASB) strongly preferred
Strong preference for experience within a complex and large public higher education or non-profit organization
Ability to independently and accurately query and extract data from relational databases for multiple business purposes and convert to functional report formats and explain conclusions reached
Advanced Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access 6
Knowledge and proficiency of Accounts Payable/PeopleSoft and/or Oracle
Advanced experience with large volume computer-based vendor payments
