1. Directs, mentors, and supervises a team responsible for detailed work associated with ancillary tax reporting, payroll and accounts payable withholding, compensation accounting, and the timely and accurate reconciliation of balance sheet and statement of activity accounts (including but not limited to those associated with payroll activity and withholdings and state and federal tax liabilities) to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the University's general ledger enabling the preparation of accurate financial statements. 2. Manages the process for and ensures timeliness, accuracy and completeness of federal, state, and local ancillary tax filings and payments. Ancillary tax reporting includes timely backup withholding; 1099, 1042-S, CT A&E, Sales & Use and property tax filings and payments; maintaining appropriate documentation to support internal and external reviews; addressing tax notifications; and the consolidation and reconciliation of data used to create and file quarterly and/or annual tax filings along with related schedules and reports. 3. Manages and leads collaborations with International Tax, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Treasury and other teams in the center of expertise to facilitate position objectives. 4. Reviews, oversees, and/or prepares reconciliations of all university-level balance sheet and statement of activity accounts falling within position scope. Lead complex multi-system reconciliations. Reviews and or approves journal entries required to accurately record activity in certain cost centers or university business processes for which this General Accounting team is responsible. Includes reconciliations and variance analyses that serves as the basis for internal quarterly reports and the annual financial report. 5. Oversees and or prepares supporting schedules as requested by internal and external auditors. 6. Manages the university escheatment process, which includes filings across more than 45 jurisdictions. 7. Prepares and manages quality assurance and compliance activities impacting the financial areas for which this General Accounting team is responsible. Supports budget and forecasting activities, as requested. Establish, implement and/or maintain strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resources use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures, and external reporting requirements. Anticipate, Identify, communicate, address and/or escalate risks in a timely and appropriate manner to protect the assets, resources, information and reputation of the organization and University. 8. Provides support to the broad university community and any external party that has provided 1099 reportable services or received non-employee compensation from the university. Manages the process and team that responds to inquiries regarding withholding, 1099 and 1042-S documents issued by the university, amendments, and related accounting or reporting questions. Provides a high level of customer service that cultivates and maintains strong working relationships and effectively communicates information; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy, and relationship management. 9. Leads and/or participates as a functional resource in the design, development and enhancement of the reports necessary to facilitate team activities, monitoring, and controls and meet the compliance needs of internal and external users. Assists other leaders and staff in the Controller's group by providing financial information through the interpretation, analysis, reporting and reconciliation of data. 10. Manages/leads large projects with ITS and/or Financial Systems and Solutions related to core department systems and processes, including workday functionality and third-party systems.
