Job Description The Payroll Accountant is a key member of the Payroll team at Boston University and works closely with the staffs of Human Resources and General Accounting & Financial Reporting. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Payroll Accounting and Transformation, the Payroll Accountant is primarily responsible to provide leadership with insights on any variances observed during monthly analysis of Payroll general ledger accounts and related reconciliations.
Major duties of this position include:
Prepares monthly and year-end journal entries.
Performs monthly and/or ad hoc reporting and audits to ensure the accuracy of payroll.
Participates in the requirement gathering and testing for all changes and enhancements made to the universitys Human Capital Management (HCM) system.
Works with Human Resources to audit master data effecting payroll outcome.
Collaborates with General Accounting on Abandoned Property and yearly audits.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial team environment.
3-5 years of work experience, preferably in a university or payroll management capacity.
Intermediate skills utilizing Excel, including complex formulas in order to acquire, organize, and analyze data.
Experienced in analyzing data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management.
Proven track record to multi-task and prioritize routine tasks and ad-hoc requests.
Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output.
